1. CLEAN UP YOUR DESKTOP
Take a look at your desktop, aka the main screen on your computer. Are there a lot of apps and files just hanging out on there? If so, it may be time to clear some of that out. Having apps running on your desktop takes up space and processing power, causing your computer to run more slowly. Delete the apps and files that you don’t use/need to not only make your desktop look neater but to boost up your computer speed drastically.
2. REMOVE UNUSED/UNWANTED PROGRAMS
Sometimes we install a program for something brief and then never use it again. Sometimes we install a program thinking we will use it but then never do. Whatever the case, there are likely a few programs on your computer that are needlessly taking up processing power and slowing down your computer. Uninstaller programs such as Geek Uninstaller, Absolute Uninstaller, and CCleaner can all help you identify old programs and apps that you don’t use much and can excuse deleting, freeing up space and noticeably speeding up your computer.
3. DELETE JUNK FILES
Just like the desktop, your computer system can sometimes accumulate clutter. Clearing these files out will help speed up your computer significantly. There are many apps you can install that can delete these files for you, such as CCleaner, Avira PC Cleaner, and Clean Master. Many cleaning apps, like the ones above, can even be set to do auto cleanings in the background to help periodically speed up your PC.
4. BACK UP FILES YOU WANT TO KEEP
Those vacation photos that are sitting on your computer? They’re lovely but they are, unfortunately, also slowing slowing down your computer. This doesn’t mean you have to delete them, though! To save storage space and boost your computer speed, backup your photos and files you want to keep to a backup app, such as Dropbox or pCloud. Alternatively, if you have a Google account (such as Gmail), you can use Google Drive. Microsoft also has a backup system for Microsoft account owners (such as those with an Outlook email) called OneDrive. With these programs, you can keep all of your photos secure and accessible without sacrificing your PC speed. Plus, with most of these programs, you will be able to access your saved files from multiple devices—so long as you have the app installed on them.
There you have it! These are all things that you can do at home to boost your computer speed. If you have any troubles installing and/or running any of these programs, have questions, or would like more info on speeding up your computer, you are more than welcome to call us at Salt IT Solutions and we would be happy to help you figure things out!
